Background
Kim Wyant is a professional soccer mind that has split time playing and coaching between southern Florida and the greater New York City areas. She is currently the only female head coach of an NCAA men’s soccer team. She has spent four seasons with New York University, in which, her squads have earned three consecutive post-season bids. Most recently, one to the NCAA tournament; the first for the school’s program since 2010.
Kim started in goal for the USWNT in their inaugural game in Italy in 1985. She was capped sixteen times by the team, and is also responsible for the team’s first-ever win and shutout. In totality, she spent ten years as part of the Women’s National Team program, finally retiring in 1995.
On the club side, she played nine years for the Long Island Lady Riders of the W-League, protecting their net on their way to two league titles. She was named MVP of the latter 1997 Championship series. Her contributions throughout these seasons should be emphasized. She was the W-League’s Goalkeeper of the Year in four consecutive seasons, for which she has been inducted into the United Soccer League Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Long Island Soccer Players’ Hall of Fame later in 2013. She also received the Special Recognition Award in 2008 from the National Soccer Hall of Fame for her contributions to the National Team.
After retiring, Kim took over as the General Manager of the Lady Riders. Under her guidance, her teams twice received W-League Organization of the Year honors. She filled in as the interim head coach during this tenure, too, which resulted in a playoff run and an 11-1-1 overall record.
Kim is a USSF and NSCAA licensed coach. She serves on boards around the Long Island Soccer community, most notably as the Director of the board for the Long Island Soccer Players Hall of Fame and The Met Oval Foundation.
Kim resides in Garden City, NY and is a native of Miami, FL.
